Punjab CM Unveils INR 45.84 Crore Development Plan to Transform Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha’s Village
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann paid tribute to freedom fighter Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha on his martyrdom anniversary. He announced development projects worth INR 45.84 crore for a complete transformation of his native village, Sarabha, in Ludhiana district. The initiative is to turn the historic village into a model settlement, a blend of heritage, infrastructure, and modern amenities.
Mann addressed the state-level commemorative event and said that the development package is a tribute to Sarabha, who was executed in Lahore Central Jail on November 16, 1915, at the age of 19. A young hero of the Ghadar Movement, Sarabha’s selfless service to India’s freedom struggle continues to inspire generations. Mann also paid homage to Sarabha’s companions – Vishnu Ganesh Pingle, Bakhshish Singh, Jagat Singh, Surein Singh (Senior), Shaheed Harnam Singh Sialkoti, and Surein Singh (Junior) – who were executed on the same day.
The package includes INR 40 crore for widening the two-lane road from Lalto Kalan to Sarabha, Raikot, and Halwara into a four-lane stretch, improving connectivity to Halwara Airport. Additionally, INR 2.82 crore will be spent on a surface water supply scheme, INR 2 crore for a 10-metre indoor shooting range, INR 10 lakh for renovating the basketball court, and INR 3 lakh for constructing a volleyball court with benches. INR 89 lakh has been kept for modernising the forest nursery, and a training academy for security and police forces will also be set up, featuring a MiG-21 aircraft for pilot and drone training.
Mann urged Punjabis to participate in events at Anandpur Sahib from November 23-25, marking the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, including light-and-sound shows, nagar kirtans, drone displays, and kirtan darbars.
This ambitious development plan combines heritage preservation with infrastructure upgrades, positioning Sarabha village as a symbol of youth, patriotism, and modern development in Punjab. The project underscores the state government’s commitment to regional growth, tourism, and honouring freedom fighters, making it a story of both historical reverence and contemporary progress.
