India Receives Second LPG Cargo as ‘Nanda Devi’ Reaches Vadinar via Hormuz

India received its second LPG cargo in two days as the vessel ‘Nanda Devi’ arrived at Vadinar port in Gujarat on Tuesday, carrying 46,500 metric tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas after passing through the Strait of Hormuz amid tensions in West Asia.

Port authorities said the cargo will be transferred through a ship-to-ship operation once the designated daughter vessel reaches and aligns with the main vessel. The process is part of standard handling for such shipments at the Vadinar facility in Devbhumi Dwarka district.

Officials said LPG vessels are currently being handled on priority, with instructions to ensure quick turnaround and strict adherence to safety and operational norms. Multiple agencies are involved in monitoring the process.

The development follows the arrival of another LPG vessel, ‘Shivalik’, at Mundra port a day earlier.

India depends heavily on imports for its energy needs, sourcing around 88 percent of crude oil, 50 percent of natural gas and nearly 60 percent of LPG from overseas. A significant share of these energy supplies is transported through the Strait of Hormuz.

At present, 22 Indian-flagged vessels with 611 seafarers are in the western Gulf region, with efforts underway to ensure their safe passage.
