Snowfall in Hilly Areas Intensifies Cold, Four Districts Brace for Possible Rain

Punjab Weather Update

Punjab Weather Update: The Meteorological department has issued a weather alert for four districts in Punjab as cold weather tightens its grip on the region. Predictions indicate a possibility of rain in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, and Hoshiarpur, although the likelihood remains relatively low. The primary factors contributing to these weather conditions are the recent snowfall in hilly areas and the influx of cold winds from upper regions.

The aftermath of snowfall in mountainous terrains has led to a noticeable drop in temperatures across Punjab, with several districts reporting colder temperatures compared to neighboring Himachal Pradesh. The meteorological department foresees cloudy conditions for short durations, especially in the specified districts, with dry weather and ample sunshine expected in other parts of Punjab.

The cascade effect of snowfall in the mountains has caused a surge in cold temperatures in lower regions. The prevailing wind direction from the mountains towards Punjab further intensifies the chilly weather. Amritsar and Ludhiana recorded a minimum temperature of 4 degrees Celsius today, highlighting the significant drop in temperatures. In contrast, Dharamshala, situated in the hilly terrain, experienced a slightly milder minimum temperature of around 6 degrees Celsius.

While day and night temperatures in Punjab remain within the normal range, the disparity between the two is noteworthy. Most cities in Punjab are registering daytime temperatures between 20 and 22 degrees Celsius, whereas the minimum night temperatures hover around 5 degrees Celsius. This temperature difference can potentially lead to health issues. Additionally, the variance may contribute to the formation of morning fog in open areas of Punjab, dissipating as the sun emerges during the day.
