High Court Takes Strict Stand in Lawrence Bishnoi Interview Case, Orders Probe into Role of Senior Officers
High Court's on Gangstar Lawrence Bishnoi Interview Case: The suo motu hearing related to the interview of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, recorded at the CIA unit in Kharar, was held today before a division bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court comprising Justice Anupinder Singh Grewal and Justice Deepak Manchanda.
During the hearing, the court directed SIT chief Prabodh Kumar to investigate the matter from every angle, particularly examining the role of senior police officers in depth. The court clearly stated that if it is not satisfied with the SIT's report, the case will be handed over to a central agency.
The court also directed the DGP of Punjab to submit an affidavit by the next hearing detailing the number of FIRs registered in the state between January 2024 and July 15, 2025, related to extortion, threats to life, and similar offenses.
Additionally, the court instructed SIT chief Prabodh Kumar to submit a final report within one month and emphasized that junior officers should not be made scapegoats in the investigation, as such an interview would not have been possible without the involvement of senior officers.
The court also ordered that IPS officer Dhruv Dahiya, AIG Counter Intelligence, be included as a member of the SIT led by Prabodh Kumar.
The next hearing in the matter has been scheduled for August 18, 2025.
