Khaira slips up while analyzing situation, brings up controversy too soon

Pulwama attack

Chandigarh: 16th Feb: A day after the tragic Pulwama attack on security forces, which killed more than 40 CRPF personnel, politics overshadowed the grim circumstances. This morning, Sukhpal Singh Khaira founder of newly formed Punjabi Ekta Party, went live on his social media page, to pay tribute to the slain soldiers of Pulwama, and analysed the situation and what effects it might have on Punjab, strategically and financially.

He condemned the attack in fierce words, and said that it was the most dastardly attack and whoever responsible for it should not be spared. Further, he analysed the effects a situation of animosity and possible war could do to Punjab. He said that Punjab has suffered for the longest time at the hands of invaders, being the border state. Today, if a war like situation descends with Pakistan, it would hit Punjab, as Punjab would be land-locked and trade would shut down.

People would be killed, and the state would fall into abyss once again. It has already been through a dark period of terrorism, and this is a risk it cannot take. But in his message, Khaira jumped the line and raised the controversy of Army being involved in unethical practices in Kashmir. This has not gone down well with people, as they say it is an inappropriate time for such talks. It is the need of the hour to be united and such a statement shows a divided front instead of unity. Meanwhile the country struggles with the loss of its men.
