Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann Slams Congress, Akalis as ‘Bellyaching’ Ahead of Panchayat Elections
Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann has criticised opposition parties Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal. He described their actions as “bellyaching” ahead of the upcoming Panchayat elections. In Chandigarh, the CM addressed a gathering and asserted that these parties are indulging in political theatrics instead of focusing on public welfare and development.
Mann highlighted that his government is committed towards addressing the major issues of Punjab, including employment, education, healthcare, and farmers’ welfare. He alleged that opposition leaders often resort to criticism without offering constructive solutions, mainly to create political noise during sensitive electoral periods.
The CM also emphasised his administration's achievements over the past year. He cited significant measures taken in improving governance and public service delivery. He mentioned initiatives focused on enhancing transparency, curbing corruption, and ensuring effective implementation of welfare schemes. He said these measures reflect the government's dedication to citizen-centric development, which he claimed the opposition frequently undermines for political gains.
Mann dismissed allegations from Congress and Akali leaders regarding administrative lapses and described such claims as politically motivated and lacking factual basis. He accused the opposition of focusing on trivial matters to divert attention from their own shortcomings and failure to address Punjab’s longstanding issues.
Mann's remarks come ahead of the Panchayat elections, a critical and sensitive time for the ruling party in local governance and grassroots-level administration. He expressed confidence that voters would recognise the government’s genuine efforts in bringing development and progress to the state. According to him, the electorate is aware of the government’s track record and will make informed choices at the polls.
Mann reiterated his commitment to strengthening Panchayati Raj institutions and empowering local bodies. He emphasised that decentralisation of governance and active citizen participation are crucial to achieve sustainable development in Punjab.
The Chief Minister urged citizens to remain vigilant against political misinformation and to judge parties based on their performance and dedication to public service rather than rhetoric. Mann’s statements highlight a robust defence of his government’s policies and an assertive stance against criticism from rival parties ahead of elections.
