Punjab Rolls Out Rs 100 Cr Relief Drive as CM Mann Details Massive Post-Flood Recovery Measures

Chandigarh: With floodwaters gradually subsiding in several parts of Punjab, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday unveiled a wide-ranging relief and rehabilitation plan aimed at restoring normal life in the disaster-struck regions. The state government has earmarked Rs 100 crore to support immediate clean-up, medical outreach, and livestock care.

Speaking at a press briefing, CM Mann emphasized that while the worst of the flooding may be over, the recovery process will be labor-intensive and community-driven.

“This is a time for action, not complacency. Our villages need urgent help, and the government is fully committed to ensuring no one is left behind,” CM Mann said.

Swift Sanitation Push in Villages

The Chief Minister announced that a state-supported clean-up campaign has been initiated across flood-affected zones, with mechanized equipment and manpower being dispatched to remove accumulated silt and debris.

Each impacted village will be given Rs 1 lakh in initial funding, with additional support available based on the extent of the damage. JCB machines, tractor-trolleys, and labor crews will be deployed to manage clean-up efforts efficiently.

Dead livestock, which poses a significant public health threat, will be promptly removed and safely disposed of by designated teams.

Health and Hygiene: Top Priorities

To prevent the spread of disease, anti-mosquito fogging operations will be carried out in all vulnerable areas. The state also plans to set up medical camps in over 2,300 villages to provide immediate healthcare to those impacted by the floods.

Additionally, 550 ambulances will be on standby to offer emergency response capabilities.

“From sanitation to medical care, we’re covering all fronts to make sure our citizens stay safe during this recovery phase,” the CM said.

Veterinary Teams Mobilized to Protect Livestock

The flood has impacted around 2.5 lakh animals in over 700 villages, prompting the state to launch a special veterinary assistance campaign. Veterinary doctors and support teams have been stationed across key regions to treat injured or infected animals and prevent the outbreak of diseases.

“Livestock is the backbone of rural Punjab. Their well-being is as important as that of people,” Mann added.

Public Participation Encouraged

CM Mann invited non-government organizations (NGOs), youth groups, and volunteers to assist in the restoration efforts, reinforcing the importance of collective action in times of crisis.

“We welcome every helping hand. This is a people’s movement, and together, we will rebuild stronger,” he said.

Towards a Rejuvenated Punjab

Expressing confidence in Punjab’s resilience, Mann closed his remarks with a message of unity and hope.

“These floods may have tested us, but our spirit remains unshaken. With determination and cooperation, we will rebuild a vibrant, progressive, and clean Punjab — a true Rangla Punjab,” he concluded.
