BJP Announces Inder Iqbal Singh Atwal as its candidate for Jalandhar By-Polls

JALANDHAR: Bharatiya Janata Party has announced its candidate for the by-elections to be held in Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat. BJP has given ticket to Inder Iqbal Singh Atwal. Atwal joined the BJP three days ago. He has been an MLA from the Shiromani Akali Dal and belongs to the Valmiki religious Sikh family. Inder Iqbal Atwal's father Charanjit Singh Atwal contested the Lok Sabha elections from Jalandhar in 2019 and lost to Chaudhary Santokh Singh of Congress by 19,000 votes.

Notably, In January 2023, Congress MP from Jalandhar, Santokh Singh Chaudhary, passed away during Rahul Gandhi's 'Bharat Jodo Yatra'. Voting for the seat vacated by his demise will be held on May 10 and the results will come out on May 13. Aam Aadmi Party and Congress have already announced their candidates. Karamjit Kaur, wife of late Santokh Chaudhary from Congress and former MLA Sushil Kumar Rinku from AAP are in the fray.
