MOHALI: Investigation is ongoing in the Kotkapura firing case. A challan has been presented against four police officials including former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini and former IG Umranangal. They have been accused of registering false cases against innocent people and misusing their power.

The Special Investigation Team has termed the FIR registered against the protesters on the day of the incident as a conspiracy. The SIT has said that a false case has been registered against innocent people. The responsible police officers have been named in connection with the matter. The investigation team has given a clean chit to the Sikh Sangat and termed the action taken by the police against the Sikhs who were sitting on a peaceful protest as a false and calculated conspiracy.

Notably, the Kotakpura firing incident is being investigated by the Special Investigation Team. Earlier, SIT had issued summons to three former officials. Former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal's former Principal Secretary IAS Gagandeep Singh Brar and two other IPS officers were summoned in the case. These three officials were called for questioning on March 6.

In this case, former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Sukhbir Singh Badal were also issued summons to appear on March 23, after which they reached the Faridkot court. He had sought anticipatory bail from the court. The anticipatory bail case will be heard tomorrow i.e. on March 14.
