Punjab School Holidays News: Will Punjab extend winter holidays in schools?

Punjab School Winter Vacation Holidays Extension Latest News Today: Amid cold-wave conditions, the students of Punjab schools were expecting an extension in the school holidays. However, the holidays have been extended for only the students of classes up to 5. 

Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains took to X and said, "According to the guidelines of Honorable Chief Minister Punjab Bhagwant Singh Maan ji, all the primary schools of the state up to the 5th class (Government/Aided/Recognized and Private) will remain closed from 15th January to 21st January 2024 due to the severe cold in the state and in view of the health and safety of the students. 

He further said, "All Middle, High, and Senior Secondary Schools (Government/Aided/Recognised and Private) of the state will have regular sessions from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm from tomorrow i.e. January 15 onwards.

Similarly, all double-shift schools will have timings from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM while no double-shift school shall open after 4:00 p.m. These orders will remain in force with immediate effect till 21 January 2024.

Earlier, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had announced the extension of school holidays in Punjab. "Keeping in view the severe cold, it has been decided to have a holiday from January 8 to January 14 in all the government and private schools of Punjab up to class 10," Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann said in a tweet, posted on 7th January. 

Punjab Weather Update: 

The Meteorological Department has predicted that the weather has been dry in Haryana and Punjab. At the same time, dense to very dense fog has been reported from most places in Punjab and at a few places in Haryana. In the meanwhile, the weather has been predicted to be dry in the state with no large change in minimum temperatures during the next 24 hours and a rise by 2°C, thereafter over the state. 

It also predicted that dense to very dense fog is likely at many places on the 13th of January; at a few places on the 14th, 15th, and 16th of January, and at isolated places, after that in the state. Similarly, cold day to severe cold day conditions are likely at many places on the 13th; at a few places on the 14th & 15th, and at isolated places on the 16th in the state.
