Chandigarh: The Punjab Government has extended the time limit repeatedly for all the vehicle owners of the state to get the High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) affixed on their vehicles.

During the last 8 months around 13 Lac more vehicles have been fitted with HSRP. Still many owners have not come forward to get them affixed. This will be the final opportunity for all the vehicle owners to get HSRP affixed by 15th APRIL after which concerned authorities would start to issue challans of vehicles without High Security Registration Plates.

She added that a unique facility of Fitment at Home is also available. This facility is optional whereby vehicle owners can avail the facility by paying a facilitation charge of Rupees 100 for 2 and 3 wheeler and Rs 150 for four wheelers and above.

State Transport Commissioner Dr. Amarpal Singh said that the benefit of HSRP to helps track lost or stolen vehicles has further improved as now it's not possible to print Vehicle Registration Certificate (RC) if HSRP has not been affixed.

The HSRP fitment data is now directly linked to VAHAN application of NIC (National Informatics Centre) to prevent printing of fraud/illegal RCs. He appealed that those who have not affixed HSRP on vehicles should get them fitted on time to avoid challans.

It is pertinent to mention that it is mandatory for all vehicles in India to be affixed with High Security Registration Plates.
