Prohibition Imposed on Wearing Face Coverings in Ferozepur; Order Effective Till Nov 30
District Magistrate Rajesh Dhiman IAS imposed restrictions on the use of face coverings by the general public while walking & driving
FEROZEPUR: In a bid to ensure the safety and security of citizens and their property, the District Magistrate of Ferozepur, Rajesh Dhiman IAS, has implemented a prohibition on wearing face coverings for ordinary citizens while driving vehicles or walking within the district limits. The order, established under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure 1973 (Act No. 2 of 1974), aims to address concerns related to public safety and identification.
The directive follows information provided by the Senior Captain of Police Ferozepur, highlighting a practice where individuals in Ferozepur district cover their faces with cloth while driving or walking, leading to difficulties in identifying them. This practice could potentially provide a disguise for anti-social elements, enabling them to evade law enforcement after committing crimes.
To counteract this issue and maintain public safety, the District Magistrate has issued an order prohibiting the wearing of face coverings while driving vehicles or walking within the district. However, the ban excludes individuals who are required to wear a mask or any other facial covering under medical supervision due to illnesses or allergies. Notably, The prohibition will remain in effect until November 30, 2023, and is intended to safeguard the well-being and security of the public while upholding law and order within Ferozepur district.
