Why Contempt proceedings be not initiated against Principal Secretary and Municipal Commissioner:- High Court
By Niel Bhalinder Singh, Chandigarh (11th Oct'18): Counsel for the petitioner pointed out that as per the information received under RTI Act from Municipal Corporation Ludhiana there are large number of violations against which no action has been taken either by the Municipal Commissioner, Ludhiana or by the Department of Local Bodies, Punjab, thus order passed by the High Court in Public Interest Litigation has not been complied with, for which erring officers are liable to face contempt proceedings.
Justice A.G. Masih after hearing issued notice to the Principal Secretary, Department of Local Government, Punjab and to Municipal Commissioner, Ludhiana for 06.03.2019 to show cause as to why proceedings for contempt be not initiated against them for non-compliance of the order passed by this Court and respondents are directed to file Reply/compliance report to the contempt within a period of ten weeks
