Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Friday stated that the Punjab government does not accept the Centre's and the Haryana government's proposal to deploy the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) for the security of the Bhakra Beas Dam.

Cheema told ANI, “The central government and the Haryana government want the CISF to be deployed for the security of the Bhakra Beas Dam. However, the Punjab Police has been ensuring the dam’s security for the past 70 years, and it is fully capable of continuing to do so.”

He further alleged, “In collusion with the Congress-led government, the BJP-led central government conspired to hand over the dam's security to the CISF. but today we have withdrawn this decision.”

“We have conveyed to the central government that we do not accept the deployment of the CISF. Our Punjab Police is competent. The Congress party, correcting its past mistake, has now supported our stance,” he added.
