Relief to the Farmers, 21 Percent More Wheat Procured in Punjab
Possibility of production of 155 lakh metric tons in the state: Agri Dept Director Dr. Gurwinder Singh
MOHALI: Farmers of Punjab have once again proved that no challenge can withstand hard work by increasing wheat production despite unseasonal rains, hailstorms, strong gusts and reduction in area. Amidst the weather disturbance, it was speculated that the yield would be affected, but this time till May 10, there has been 21 percent more purchase in the markets compared to last year.
Director of Agriculture Department Dr. Gurwinder Singh said that in 2022-23 there is a possibility of production of 155 lakh metric tons in the state. Production remained limited to 148 lakh metric tonnes due to shortage in the border region and mand region. The yield is expected to be up to 165 lakh metric tonnes. District Patiala has created a record in the purchase of wheat.
8,71,752 metric tons have been purchased in Patiala. Sangrur stood at second spot, Muktsar Sahib at third, Bathinda fourth and Fazilka district at fifth. Notably, More production and procurement will boost the economy.
