5 Accused Arrested in Connection with Explosions at Golden Temple, Amritsar

AMRITSAR: Five people have been arrested in connection with the blasts that took place near Sri Darbar Sahib Heritage Street and Guru Ramdas Inn. Three explosions have been reported in Amritsar in about a week. Meanwhile, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav tweeted that the low intensity blast cases in Amritsar have been resolved. The Special Investigation Team is investigating the matter. 

DGP Punjab held a press conference today and divulged the details in the case. The Arrested accused have been identified as Azadvir Singh, Amrik Singh, Sahib Singh Saba, Harjit Singh and Dharminder Singh. He said that IED was assembled in the bathroom of the inn. The accused involved in this, Harjit Singh, works to make firecrackers and he also has a license for it.

DGP said that Azadbir Singh took the explosive material from Dharminder Singh, who had brought it from Harjit Singh via Sahib Singh. The role of a woman is also being investigated in this case. Meanwhile, about one kg of explosive material has been recovered from Azadbir Singh. Explosive material containing 200 grams of crackers contained in a energy drink and Tiffin was recovered.

DGP said that during the investigation, he got full support from the task force of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). For this, he called and thanked the SGPC president.
