Winter Chill Grips Punjab: Meteorological Department Issues Weather Alert

Punjab Weather Update Today

Punjab Weather Update: As Winter tightens its grip on Punjab, Ludhiana takes the lead as the coldest city in the state, marking a significant drop in temperatures. The onset of chilly weather is accompanied by a dense white sheet of fog blanketing the region during the morning and evening hours, causing reduced visibility and posing challenges for motorists. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert, urging residents to stay informed about the evolving weather conditions.

In the current forecast, the Meteorological Department predicts a day with cloudy skies and sunshine in Punjab. The maximum temperature may reach up to 24 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is projected to dip to 10 degrees Celsius. Meteorologists have issued a cautionary advisory for extreme cold in the upcoming days. The police administration advises drivers to exercise caution in the fog, suggesting refraining from drug use and mobile phone distractions while driving. Additionally, timely departures are encouraged to avoid delays, and overtaking during foggy conditions is strongly discouraged. In case of vehicle breakdowns, activating emergency lights and standing outside the vehicle for safety are recommended practices.

The night temperatures are on a downward trajectory across the state, with Ludhiana registering as the coldest city on Friday. Recording a minimum temperature of 5.7 degrees Celsius, which is 2.6 degrees Celsius below the normal range. Other cities like Jalandhar, Faridkot, and Moga also experienced cold temperatures ranging from 6.4 to 6.6 degrees Celsius. Similarly, Patiala, Chandigarh, and Bathinda reported minimum temperatures of 8.5, 9.3, and 7.4 degrees Celsius, respectively.

The Meteorological Department warns of dense fog in many districts on Saturday morning, potentially causing a further drop of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in minimum temperatures. Residents are advised to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions amidst the winter weather conditions.
