PM Narendra Modi Punjab Visit Today, Gurdaspur Floods, Live Updates: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to visit Punjab today, to 'personally assess' the devastation caused by recent floods. His helicopter is scheduled to land in Gurdaspur at around 3:45 in the afternoon. From there, he will travel to chair an hour-long review meeting in Gurdaspur.
His visit reportedly includes an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas in the state. Before his Punjab visit, the Prime Minister will visit the flood and landslide-hit Himachal Pradesh to review the situation there and will conduct an aerial survey.
Punjab has been hit by the worst flood in nearly 40 years, following incessant rainfall in the neighboring mountain states this monsoon. As of now, over 50 people have died in Punjab due to floods.
When the flood was at its peak, the Punjab Government sought its pending Rs 60,000 crores from the centre and an additional Rs 20,000 crore for the relief and rescue operations; however, the centre gave no assurance.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant yesterday expressed hope that the Prime Minister, after visiting the state today, would announce a relief package or make provisions to compensate Punjab and its people for the losses caused by this natural disaster.

Gurdaspur: Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar, speaking after coming out of the meeting, said that discussions were held regarding the relief package for Punjab. He added that the concerns of farmers who had taken land on lease to cultivate crops were also heard, and there was detailed discussion on the losses suffered. He expressed hope that the Centre would provide compensation according to the extent of the damage.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted an aerial survey of the disaster-affected areas of Himachal and reviewed the relief operations.
Earlier, the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu pesonally welcomed Prime Minister.
In a post on X, CM Sukhu said, "Today I welcomed Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji who came to Dharamshala to inspect the disaster affected areas.'
"Everyone has high expectations from the Prime Minister's visit to Himachal in this difficult time of disaster. I hope that he will definitely take a decision in the interest of the affected families," he added.

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits Punjab today, about three weeks after the state was hit by the worst floods in recent times, AAP Punjab, hitting out at the PM, said, "Modi Ji, even if it’s after Afghanistan, at least you’ve finally remembered Punjab after all these days."
AAP Punjab made the statement in a post on X. It added, "You wrote in your tweet that your government stands with Punjab, but your same government is withholding Punjab’s rightful ₹60,000 crore. Moreover, you haven’t even announced a relief package yet."
The Punjab government appealed PM for the release of its due funds and additional flood relief fund.
"If you truly stand with Punjab, release Punjab’s rightful ₹60,000 crore and, before heading back, announce a separate ₹20,000 crore relief package so that the massive losses to agriculture and farmers due to this disaster can be compensated, and Punjab can be brought back on its feet," it added in the post.

According to a report by the Tribune, Bittu would also be part of a high-level meeting with Punjab government officials in Gurdaspur in the evening today on September 9, to assess the flood situation and to discuss the relief efforts.
