‘Gangster Te Vaar': Amritsar Police arrest five youths, recover drugs, arms and ammunition
In a focused, intelligence-led operation, police recovered a car, two .32 bore pistols, and four live cartridges from their possession.
Punjab Police News: Dismantling a cross-border arms and narcotics smuggling module under the ‘Gangster Te Vaar’ campaign, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police have arrested five individuals, all in their early 20s, and recovered illegal firearms, heroin and drug proceeds.
The arrested accused have been identified as Simranjeet Singh alias Mannu (24), Molakdeep Singh (23), Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi (20), Sukhraj Singh alias Joga (24), and Sajan Singh alias Gursajan alias Ladda (22).
In a focused, intelligence-led operation, police recovered a car, two .32 bore pistols, and four live cartridges from their possession.
During interrogation, further recoveries were made, leading to the seizure of four more pistols—two 9mm Glock pistols made in Austria, one Zigana pistol made in Turkey, and one .30 bore pistol—along with six live cartridges, 115 grams of heroin, and drug money amounting to Rs 11.90 lakh. Police suspect the accused were involved in organised illegal arms and narcotics activities.
During the investigation, Simranjeet Singh alias Mannu emerged as a repeat offender and was previously involved in cases under the NDPS Act, with recoveries of heroin, police said.
Accused Molakdeep Singh, police said, has a serious criminal background and was earlier apprehended in narcotics cases involving the recovery of commercial quantities of heroin, indicating his active role in organised drug trafficking.
Similarly, accused Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi was earlier arrested in an NDPS Act case involving the recovery of a commercial quantity of heroin, reflecting his continued involvement in the illegal narcotics trade.
Police stated that all five accused are residents of villages located near the international border. Molakdeep Singh is from village Ranike, while the remaining four are from Roda Wala Kalan.
The police team involved in the arrests and recoveries included Ravinderpal Singh, DCP (Detective); Jagbinder Singh, ADCP (Detective); Harminder Singh Sandhu, ACP (Detective); and Inspector Amandeep Singh, In-charge, Anti-Narcotics Operations Cell.
