Amritsar MC Goes Digital: QR Codes Launched for 100% Door-to-Door Waste Collection
The Amritsar Municipal Corporation (MC) has initiated a QR code-based tracking system for door-to-door garbage collection to strengthen urban sanitation drives. The initiative is focused on ensuring 100 per cent coverage. It has been launched from Anand Avenue in Ward No. 4, which is currently serving as the nodal ward for this digital initiative.
Mayor Jatinder Singh Bhatia said that QR codes are being fixed on the exterior walls of households across the city. Under this mechanism, waste collection staff from RRR Company, which was awarded the contract, must scan the code upon lifting garbage.
This triggers an automated message to the resident’s phone, allowing them to confirm the service via a "Yes" or "No" response. If a resident reports that waste was not collected, a complaint automatically registers on the company’s portal at the MC office, prompting a redeployment of the vehicle.
The Mayor addressed waste challenges at the Bhagtanwala dump site,emphasizing that this comprehensive plan’s aim is to streamline daily disposal. Municipal Commissioner Bikramjit Singh Shergill clarified that the company is responsible for daily collection and strictly instructed residents not to make any cash payments to staff, as all transactions must be online.
While the company has deployed new vehicles with more expected shortly, the Commissioner urged citizens to avoid dumping garbage on streets. He stressed that maintaining a clean city is a shared responsibility. Residents can also use the QR codes to file direct complaints regarding sanitation services.
