Chandigarh: The Special Road Safety Force (SSF), launched by the Punjab government under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has made remarkable progress in curbing road accidents and ensuring public safety within its first 10 months of operation. The SSF is dedicated to patrolling highways, providing first aid during accidents, and maintaining overall road safety across Punjab.
With a control room set up in Mohali, citizens can access SSF’s services by dialing 112. The force is strategically deployed at 30-km intervals across all districts, ensuring swift responses to emergencies.
Impressive Performance Highlights
Accident Response: Since its inception in February 2024, the SSF has responded to over 70 road accidents daily. It has successfully rescued 17,469 victims in just eight months, achieving an average response time of 6 minutes and 41 seconds.
Reduction in Fatalities: The SSF has contributed to a 45.55% reduction in road accident fatalities in 2024 compared to 2023 (till October). The Punjab government is working toward reducing road accident deaths by 50% by 2025.
Additional Achievements
The SSF has gone beyond its mandate of road safety by contributing significantly to crime prevention and public welfare:
Crime Prevention:

- Assisting in removing or repositioning overturned and broken-down vehicles.
- Educating drivers on road safety rules.
- Helping with vehicle breakdowns on highways.
- Supporting Health Initiatives
The SSF complements Punjab’s broader efforts to enhance public health and safety. Under the Farishte Scheme, ambulances have been deployed to provide timely treatment during the critical "golden hour" following accidents.
A Vision for a Safer Punjab
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab government remains committed to creating safer roads and reducing road accident fatalities. The SSF’s proactive approach and exemplary performance highlight the effectiveness of these initiatives, ensuring a safer society for all.
