The victim, identified as Balwinder Singh, known as Nikku, was only 37 years old.

The deceased had been struggling with a severe addiction to heroin, and the vice had taken a toll on every aspect of his life. Such was the gravity of his addiction that he resorted to selling off all his belongings, including furniture, utensils, and even the doors of his house, to sustain his drug habit. In a desperate attempt to escape the distressing environment resulting from her husband's addiction, Balwinder Singh's wife, Sunita Rani, fled to her parental home, taking their three children along.
