Will Punjab Also Join Delhi and Chandigarh in Announcing School Holidays?

Punjab School Winter Holidays Extension, Weather Update Latest News: In view of the cold wave conditions and dense fog, the Punjab government has announced school holidays for classes up to X. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to announce that the schools will remain closed for classes up to 10, till January 14. 

"Keeping in view the severe cold, it has been decided to have a holiday from January 8 to January 14 in all the government and private schools of Punjab up to class 10," Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann tweeted. 

Earlier, the Chandigarh Administration and the Delhi Government had also announced school holidays for some classes. While the Delhi Government announced holidays for the next 5 days for students from Nursery to Class 5, the Chandigarh administration announced holidays for classes up to VIII till January 14. 

Notably, Delhi's Education Minister Atishi Marlena took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to make an announcement. She tweeted, "Schools in Delhi will remain closed for the next 5 days due to the prevailing cold weather conditions, for students from Nursery to Class 5."

Likewise, the Chandigarh Administration issued an order related to the school holidays. It stated, “In view of the cold spell and predicted dense fog in the region, all government, government aided and private schools of UT Chandigarh for classes up to VIII shall remain closed up to 14.1.2024 (schools for these classes to reopen on 15.1.2024). Online classes may be conducted by the schools.”

Punjab has also been witnessing bone-chilling cold waves across the state besides dense fog has been covering the whole state with the India Meteorological Department issuing warnings from time to time.  

Punjab Weather Update: 

Notably, the India Meteorological Department recently issued an orange alert in over 11 districts for January 8 where dense to very dense fog along with cold wave conditions are most likely to occur. These 11 districts include Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Patiala. On the other hand, the rest of the districts have been issued a yellow alert.
