Punjab Roadways Superintendent Caught Red-Handed Taking Rs 40,000 Bribe by Vigilance

Punjab Roadways Superintendent Caught Red-Handed Taking Rs 40,000 Bribe by Vigilance News: During an anti-corruption drive in the state, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau caught Superintendent Balwant Singh, posted at Punjab Roadways Depot-1 in Jalandhar, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000, according to sources.

Speaking about the case today, a spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau stated that the case was registered based on a complaint filed by a retired driver of Punjab Roadways.

The complainant told the Vigilance Bureau that the superintendent had demanded Rs 50,000 in exchange for preparing his pending overtime bill before his retirement. On the complainant’s request, the superintendent agreed to take Rs 40,000, but the complainant did not want to give the bribe. The complainant further alleged that the accused had already obtained Rs 1,54,000 from him in installments during the hearing of his case in the Labour Court.

After verifying the complaint, a vigilance team from the Jalandhar range set up a trap, during which the superintendent was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 from the complainant in the presence of two government witnesses.

A case under the Anti-Corruption Act has been registered against the superintendent at the Vigilance Bureau, Jalandhar Range. The accused will be produced in the competent court tomorrow, and further investigation in the matter is ongoing.
