Chandigarh: Punjab has improved on key Covid-19 parameters like active cases, recoveries and doubling rate but the state doesn't appear to be getting a handle on the high fatality rate which has even surpassed the world's average rate.

There has been significant rise in number of people succumbing to the virus in Punjab which has so far claimed 3,603 lives. Out of these 3,217 people died in span of 65 days from Aug 1 to Oct 4. 

As many as 102,198 Covid-19 deaths have been recorded at national and 1,039,440 at the world level.

The data analysis shows that the world fatality rate has come down from 4% recorded in mid-July to 2.94% on October 4 while the national Covid-19 fatality rate dropped from 3.36% to 1.55%. However, during the same period, Punjab’s death rate went up from 2.41% to 3.04%.

Punjab is the lone state among 20 worst-affected states in the country to have a fatality rate above three, while in two states the death rate is below three.
