Yellow and Orange Alerts in Punjab as Dense Fog Disrupts Daily Life

Punjab Weather Update Today

Punjab Weather Update Today: The northern region of India, particularly Punjab, finds itself engulfed in severe cold and dense fog, with the Meteorological Department issuing alerts to residents. The persistent fog has shrouded many areas, with some places not witnessing sunshine for the past six days, severely impacting daily life.

Orange Alert in 8 Districts of Punjab

The Meteorological Department has raised an orange alert for dense fog in eight districts of Punjab, including Sangrur, Mansa, Patiala, Fatehgarh Sahib, Mohali, Ludhiana, Rupnagar, and Moga. The visibility in these areas is expected to drop below 50 meters, causing disruptions in road and rail traffic. Morning trains are experiencing delays, affecting the daily commute of residents.

Yellow Alert for Other Districts

Additionally, a yellow alert for fog has been issued in other districts, urging caution among commuters. The temperature difference between day and night remains minimal, with the Meteorological Department cautioning people to be vigilant on the roads.

Relief Predicted on January 9

The Meteorological Department forecasts a possibility of light rain on January 9, which could bring relief from the dry cold. However, until now, the absence of rain has posed challenges for individuals with respiratory conditions, exacerbating issues for asthma patients.

Chandigarh's Weather Outlook

Chandigarh is expected to witness light cloud cover today and tomorrow, with a clear sky forecasted for Saturday. The maximum day temperature is anticipated to be 17 degrees Celsius, while the minimum night temperature is expected to be 9 degrees Celsius. Despite the cloud cover, the Meteorological Department suggests potential relief from fog during the day, though dense fog remains probable at night. This temperature forecast indicates a deviation of one degree Celsius below normal.

The Meteorological Department attributes the current weather conditions to the activation of the Western Disturbance, resulting in cloudy skies. However, the likelihood of rain remains low, and significant changes in the weather are not anticipated over the next three days.
