Chandigarh: A couple seeking protection from the Punjab and Haryana High Court after tying the knot against family wishes will end up paying Rs 10,000 fine for not wearing masks during the wedding ceremony.

The fine was imposed by Justice Hari Pal Verma after it was found from the photographs of marriage attached by the couple that they were not wearing masks.

Justice Verma also said that the fine amount should be used to provide masks to the people in Hoshiarpur district. The petitioners had contended that they were major and had solemnised their marriage in accordance with law.
