Spokesman News Service, Chandigarh, November 2: HC directs Union of India to look into allegations made by Sanjeev Kumar, Para-Bedminton player of Abohar, that his name was arbitrarily dropped from the players after it was recommended by the Para-Badminton Association of India- Union of India has also been directed to ensure formation of guidelines for selecting players:

Acting on a civil writ petition filed by Sanjeev Kumar , a para-badminton player from Abohar, the HC Bench of Justice Rajan Gupta today directed the  Union of India to look into complaint of the petitioner that although his name was recommended by the Para-Badminton Association of India for Para-Asian Games to be held at Jakarta (Indonesia) in the first week of October, 2018, the same was arbitrarily withdrawn at a later stage, and thus, he was arbitrarily prevented from participating in Para Asian Games in  WH2 Category of handicapped persons.

He had also alleged that no trials   were conducted before  dropping his name from list of  recommended players. The HC Bench further directed the Union of India to ensure that competent authority lays down appropriate guidelines for purpose of selection of players for such international tournaments. This exercise be completed within a period of four months.

Sanjeev Kumar has stated in his Writ Petition that he  had National Ranking No. 1, Asian Ranking No. 10 and World Ranking No. 19 on the basis of his performance in the games at the aforesaid levels, yet he was arbitrarily denied opportunity to participate in Para-Asian Games held from 8.10.2018 to 16.10.2018. However, his writ petition could not be decided well in time, with the result that Para-Asian Games stood concluded during the intervening period.
