Nationwide Transport Strike News: 50pc PRTC, PUNBUS bus services halted, petrol pumps dry in Punjab

Transport Strike in India Latest News: In a shocking development, as many as 50 per cent of PRTC and PUNBUS bus services have been halted as 70 per cent of petrol pumps across Punjab are running dry. This has led to major chaos in Punjab as people are forced to wait in long queues outside petrol pumps. Unfortunately, some of the petrol pumps are even out of fuel. This is major because of the protest against the hit-and-run new law in India. 

With the nationwide transport strike entering its second day on Tuesday, vehicles were seen lined up outside petrol pumps as fuel supply has been majorly impacted in cities across the country. The three-day strike was initiated by truck, bus and tanker drivers to stage their protest against the new jail and fine regulations under the newly launched Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) for hit-and-run cases.

It has been reported that 50 per cent of PRTC and PUNBUS bus services have been affected as 70 per cent of petrol pumps across Punjab are running dry. 

As per the new hit-and-run law, drivers who cause a serious road accident due to negligent driving and run away without informing the police may face punishment of up to 10 years or a fine of Rs 7 lakh.

In the meanwhile, commuters are struggling over the inability to find buses or taxis for travel as this has led to a major impact on the common man. Meanwhile, long queues were also seen at the petrol pumps in Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla and Dharamshala as drivers associated with the Transport Association have been protesting against the new hit-and-run law on Tuesday.

Likewise, several petrol pumps in Punjab’s Ludhiana were reportedly “running out of stock” while a heavy rush was seen at petrol pumps in Chandigarh and Mohali as people kept waiting to refuel their vehicles.
