Five Operatives Arrested in Major Counter-Intelligence Operation Near Indo-Pak Border

Amritsar, August 1: In a major intelligence-led operation, the Counter Intelligence unit of Amritsar on Friday arrested five operatives allegedly working under the directions of a Pakistan-based smuggler, Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav said.

During the operation, security personnel recovered six pistols—including four Glock 9mm pistols and two .30 bore pistols—along with magazines and eight live cartridges.

Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), DGP Gaurav Yadav stated, “The arrested accused had retrieved the consignment near the Indo-Pak border and were intercepted near the Panjwar bus stop while waiting to deliver the weapons to gangsters in Punjab.”

An FIR has been registered at the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) in Amritsar. Further investigation is underway to expose the entire network and its linkages, police said.

The arrested individuals have been identified as:

  • Jagroop Singh, resident of Dhun, Tarn Taran
  • Navdeep Singh, resident of Patti Lahian Di, Sur Singh, Tarn Taran
  • Arshdeep Singh, resident of Shaliwal, Amritsar
  • Gurlal Singh, resident of Rajoke, Tarn Taran
  • Joban Singh, resident of Patti Mana Ki, Sur Singh, Tarn Taran

“Punjab remains committed to dismantling cross-border arms syndicates and ensuring peace in the state,” the DGP added.
