Chandigarh: The Punjab School Education Department has not only ensured the safety of the students during the Covid-19 epidemic but has also set new standards for the continuation of the study of the students during this difficult period.

The School Education Department under the guidance of Education Minister, Vijay Inder Singla, first time started the process of online admission and online education for the safety of students during the Corona disaster as it is still not possible to open schools in these circumstances keeping in view the social distancing.

In this process, students from more than 19000 schools across Punjab are being imparted online education.

Apart from pre-primary, online education is being imparted to more than 9 lakh primary school students and more than 14 lakh students from 6th to 12th standard. As a result, enrollment in government schools has increased by nearly 1.5 lakh this year.

It is important to mention that the students of private schools are also taking benefit from the lectures being given on Doordarshan.

Under the guidance of the Education Minister, Education Secretary Krishan Kumar not only initiated the process of online education by implementing this unique initiative at the grass root level but also achieved better results by taking the initiative in this field as compared to private schools.

The work of the education department was not only limited to online education but government schools also set a new milestone by taking the first term (July) papers of 6th to 12th class students online. The Department of Education has taken 20 marks paper in each subject.

The students have shown lot of interest in the online test and the teachers also assessed the students online by downloading various apps on their mobile phones. These initiatives of Department of Education, teachers and students have created new possibilities in the field of education.
