Raja Warring appeals to Akal Takht against AAP, other parties' political conferences during religious festivals

Political conferences during religious festivals in Punjab Row: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring has appealed to the Jathedar of Shri Akal Takht Sahib, seeking clarification on political parties holding “political conferences” during religious melas at Fatehgarh Sahib and Muktsar Sahib.

In a post on X, Raja Warring highlighted that in December 2017, the then Jathedar of Shri Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Gurbachan Singh Ji, had issued an appeal to political parties not to hold political conferences "during such solemn and pious religious occasions".

“How come the ruling Aam Aadmi Party, the Shiromani Akali Dal and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held the political conferences today at the Maghi Mela in Muktsar Sahib?” he questioned.

“Would the Akal Takht take action?” he asked.

He added that the Congress party has not held any such conference ever since the direction was issued in 2017.

“We in Congress, in due respect for the Akal Takht direction, have not held any political conference since 2017,” Raja Warring said.

He further stated that the Akal Takht’s directive must be respected by all. “Hope Jathedar Akal Takht Sahib takes note of this,” he added.

Amarinder Singh Raja Warring is also the Member of Parliament from Ludhiana and has previously served as a Cabinet Minister in Punjab.
