Banwarilal Purohit Resignation News Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator resigns

Banwarilal Purohit Resignation News: In a major development, the Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Banwarilal Purohit on Saturday tendered his resignation from the respective designations that he holds.

In a letter sent to President Droupadi Murmu, Banwarilal Purohit stated, "Due to my personal reasons and certain other commitments. I tender my resignation from the post of the Governor of Punjab and Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh. Please accept the same and oblige."

Notably, Banwarilal Purohit has been a former leader of both the Congress and the BJP. He even held gubernatorial posts in Assam, Meghalaya (additional charge), and Tamil Nadu.

It was on August 31, 2021, when he took charge as Punjab Governor and Chandigarh administrator.

It may be recalled that there was a bitter and ongoing war of words between the Governor and state Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Last year in August, Banwarilal Purohit sent a letter to the Chief Minister, warning him that he could recommend the President's rule in the state and may also initiate criminal proceedings if his letters were not answered.

In the latest communication to CM Bhagwant Mann, Governor Purohit reiterated that he was not getting any reply from him on his previous letters, and even warned him that he could send a report to the President on the "failure of constitutional mechanism."

Not only this but the Governor was also slammed by the Supreme Court for holding the bills, passed by the Punjab Assembly.
