Why BJP hiding the Mugal era for promoting its ‘Hindutva’ agenda?

News, Nation

The Uttar Pradesh government has been facing flak for not inducting the picture of Taj Mahal in the tourism booklets. The BJP legislator Sangeet Som’s statement on Taj Mahal stunned the people as the termed the builder of Taj Mahal as traitor.

Som told the media that the Taj Mahal was built by traitors so it should not be the part of the history. Taj is one of the seven wonders of the world and it’s a monument which fetched lakhs of tourists every years.

It seems Sangeet Som and his party wants to erase everything built by the Mugal emperors in India. The Mugal emperors have a great contribution in the field of architecture. Mugals built Taj Mahal and Red forts. Interestingly, the Prime Minister unfurls the national flag on Independence Day from Red fort, Delhi.

Even the Grand Trunk road was built by Sher Shah Suri which is a great contribution of a Mugal to India.

Bollywood film writer and poet Javed Akhtar in his tweet told that Som is ignorant about the Indian history and he should be give a text book on history.

Akhtar tweeted, "Sangeet Som's ignorance of history is really monumental. Will some one give him any history book that is taught in sixth standard. Dr Thomas Roe who had come during Jahangir's era wrote that an average Indian's standard of living is better than an average Englishman".

In Maharashtra, the BJP led government had erased the chapters of Mugal history from the textbooks. The Maharashtra government glorified the chapters of Shivaji and Maharana Pratap.

BJP has been trying to promote the Hindutva agenda and trying to hide the history of Mugal era deliberately.  After the Mugal era, Britishers ruled India and they had introduced railways. Even the bridges were built in the time of Englishmen in India. So, what Sangeet Som would do gradually? It seems, the BJP will have to hide Taj Mahal, Red fort, Railways and other contributions of Mugals and English in the text books.
