Nimrat Kaur: Finally, BJP has a highest number of MPs in Rajya Sabha but the pressure is still not off.
The most critical fight is raging between BJP President Amit Shah and Ahmad Patel of Congress for RS seat from Gujarat.
Both men are the strongmen of their own parties but this is not merely a war of ego but a story of vengeance. Ahmad Patel is believed to be the man behind sending Amit Shah to jail in year 2000 in the fake encounter case of the gangster ‘Shorabuddin’ and his disappearance of his wife.
At that time Ahemad Patel was the powerhouse of the ruling party and today the tables have turned putting Amit Shah on the top. The fight for RS seat started from switching over of six Congress MLAs to BJP before the crucial poll.
The allegations of bribes to the MLAs ranging to the tune of 10-15 crores made Congress gather remaining 42 MLAs in to a secure resort in Karnataka and election commission was given a complaint.
But the fight did not end there. The Karnataka minister responsible for the safety and security of the MLAs was raided by Income Tax officers along with the CRPF team.
The Gujarat MLAs were also quizzed by the officials. This was denied by Arun Jaitely in the parliament but the CCTV cameras’ told a different story.
The minister is said to have hidden 11 crores but Congress alleges plantation of evidence. The IT department raided 70 other various sites including the residences and offices.
There might be a possible logical explanation coming for the money later on but for now the heat is on. And Congress is crying “unannounced Emergency’ and who is better than Congress to recognise the signs.
Afterall, the handbook of Emergency was written by the revered Indira Ghandhi. BJP has changed the modus operandi. The threat to the nation has been converted into threat to the nationalism. Nationalism is being redefined. Secularism is shown as threat to Hindutva. Masses are being brainwashed by the social media.
The leaders are being brought as unlike the leaders of 1975, today most politicians are for sale. The loser of this fight is the democratic values on which this country was founded. The pillars which were to be strengthened over time have been corroded by the narrow political narrative.
Every new dawn brings another dark day as the people and their aspirations are ignored. While Gujarat is battling a flood and an ill prepared disaster management, the think tank of the country focuses on the RS seat.
BJP forgets it was voted for it growth promise not a war on religion. After three years there is no return of black money, no increase on jobs rather a decline, small business is grappling with GST rates, demonetization has not shown its purpose and FDA is not coming and so on.
BJP has failed on its promise but their luck is in the fact that their opposition is headed by a reluctant politician, Rahul Ghandi, who thinks politics is a 9-5 job with long weekends.
He lacks the commitment to give his best. But Congress feels crippled without the Gandhi family, forgetting that their glorious years were not under the Ghandhi rule rather under the Narsima Rao and Manmohan Singh.
Congress needs to own up to its facist past and glorify their true development years. And it needs to develop leaders of mettle not of blood ties. The parties are exerting into preparation for the 2019 elections but both the parties seem not understand the pulse of the masses. Manipulation of figures cannot change the reality of the failing business. People showed Indira Ghandi the way and masses can teach the current politicians the lessons they seem to have forgotten.
