Mathura: A teacher, who was allegedly kidnapped for a ransom of Rs 10 lakh, was rescued within hours with the police arresting his captors from here, an official said today.
Vidhi Chandra Sharma was kidnapped on Wednesday afternoon and rescued by a joint team of the Mathura police and the Uttar Pradesh Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) in the early hours of yesterday, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Swapnil Mamgai said.
The main accused, Neeraj, and five of his associates were arrested after a brief encounter, he said. Sharma was kidnapped from Gokul Barrage when he was going to Abairani to give Rs 1 lakh to his sister, who had recently suffered a paralytic attack, the officer said, adding that the money has been recovered.
The kidnappers had demanded Rs 10 lakh ransom from his son, who informed the police, Mamgai said, adding that two country-made pistols, cartridges and the car used in the crime have been seized. PTI
