Munish Nagar: The entire nation has been busy in the celebrations of the 70th Independence Day on August 15. India attained freedom from British rule 70 years ago on the same day.
A question often comes to my mind that whether India attained social freedom or not? No, we have not attained social freedom. In a span of 70 years of freedom, the country has witnessed crimes against the women. Moreover, women being blamed whenever an incident happened with them.
In a male dominating society, the women have to be careful while wearing clothes, going out with someone and going out of home in the midnight.
When we attained freedom from the clutches of Britishers, the entire nation had dreamt about a country where women would get freedom in all spheres. However, the dream was merely an illusion and nothing happened in the 70 years.
Women in the country despite having higher education still rely on the male member of the family. Whether she is living with her parents or in-laws, she is not free to wear as per her choice, she is not free to go out with boys and moreover, she is not allowed to go out from her place in the midnight.
Where is feminism in India?
Why we are lagging behind the other countries for not giving the right to freedom to women? Where is feminism in the country? A recent incident of stalking in Chandigarh has raised the voice against the patriarchy in the country.
The victim who is a DJ was stalked by a boy who is son of a State BJP unit leader of Haryana. The victim Varnika Kundu, daughter of an IAS officer strongly took the issue and continues her fight that landed the accused behind the bars.
She was the daughter of an IAS that’s why she is bold? What about the other women who belong to middle class families? When we talk about the freedom of women, it means we talk about the freedom of every woman living in the country.
After 70th year of Independence, Women seeks #AzadiFromPatriarchy
A trend on Twitter showed the ire of the women against the patriarchy. The trend has been talking about a march which would be held on August 14 at Jantar Mantar. After Varnika Kundu’s stalking incident, the entire nation especially women stood against the patriarchy. Why they are still dependent on the males to decide everything? When we talk about the equal right then it is quite obvious that women should be given right to freedom. A freedom that defines that woman is free to wear anything; she is free to go out anytime with anyone. The real #Azadi would be achieved when women will also enjoy the equal rights.
