Republic Day 2026: Ladakh's Double-Hump Camels, Horses to Feature in Kartavya Path Parade
The animal contingent will include double-hump camels, horses, and dogs.
Republic Day 2026 Special: Yes, you saw that right. For the first time in history, a carefully curated animal contingent of the Remount & Veterinary Corps (RVC) of the Indian Army will be showcased during the Republic Day 2026 march along Kartavya Path, according to news agency ANI, citing Indian Army sources.
The animal contingent will include two Bactrian camels, four Zanskar ponies, four raptors, ten Indian breed Army dogs, and six conventional military dogs.
Double-hump camels are exclusive to the pristine valleys of Ladakh’s Nubra region. They are furry animals adapted to the sandy and cold conditions of the Nubra Valley.
The short-statured horses are also believed to be from Ladakh; however, there is no official confirmation yet.
