Tamil Nadu Stampede: TVK's Vijay Urges Govt to Take Action Against Him, Not Party Members

Tamil Nadu Stampede TVK’s Vijay Urges Govt Not to Take Action Against Party Members Latest News: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief and actor Vijay on Tuesday requested the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister not to target his party functionaries, and instead, take action against him personally if necessary.

The actor-turned-politician said, "I have never faced such a painful situation in my life. I am in deep pain... Leaving aside all politics, we always request permission from the police for a safe venue. But things that should not have happened, have happened."

He added that he would soon meet the victims and conveyed his deepest condolences to the grieving families.

“My party functionaries have been arrested by the police... Chief Minister, sir, I request you—please do not harm my party functionaries. You may come to my house or my office and take any action against me, but not against them... Soon, the full truth will come out,” Vijay said in a statement.

On 28 September, referring to the loss of lives in the stampede during his rally in Karur as “irreparable,” Vijay announced that he intends to provide ₹20 lakh to each family that lost a loved one and ₹2 lakh to those injured and receiving treatment.

“This amount is, of course, not significant in the face of such a loss. Still, at this moment, it is my duty, as one who belongs to your family, to stand by you, my dear ones, with a heavy heart,” Vijay added.

He assured that his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, will “steadfastly provide all necessary support to our loved ones who are undergoing treatment.”
