Congress MP K.C. Venugopal Visits Injured at the Hospital
Tamil Nadu Stampede: NDA-BJP Fact-Finding Team in Karur Visits Hospital Latest News: Members of the NDA-BJP leaders' delegation arrived at the hospital where those injured in the 27th September stampede are admitted. Two members of the delegation, BJP MPs Anurag Thakur and Tejasvi Surya, met the bereaved families.
BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi, one of the members of the delegation, called the incident that led to the death of 40 people an “intelligence failure” of the police. She said that permission should never have been granted in the first place, citing the narrow area.
Sarangi said, “...Permission has been given for 10,000 people. When 30,000 people gathered, I fail to understand how this could happen, because it is nothing short of an intelligence failure on the part of the police...Permission was given for a place that should not have been given. It is almost a chicken neck; a large number of people cannot congregate there. So, it is extremely unfortunate...”
BJP MP Brij Lal, another member of the delegation, called the incident a failure of the district administration and the state government.
Brij Lal said, “...That place was so narrow and 30,000 people were there. They were standing from 9 a.m. and Vijay came after 7 p.m. They were dehydrated, hungry and started fainting. Lights were off, and when there was a commotion, organizers threw water bottles. That added to more commotion, because when the bottles were on the ground, people leaned down to pick them up and fell down. Not only the organizers, but the District Administration and the Government are totally responsible for this...”
Yesterday, BJP National President J.P. Nadda constituted an eight-member NDA-BJP leaders’ delegation to visit Karur and investigate the circumstances that led to the stampede during the TVK party’s rally in Karur on 27th September.
Congress MP K.C. Venugopal Visits Injured at the Hospital:
All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary (Organisation) and MP K.C. Venugopal also visited the hospital where those injured in the stampede are admitted on Tuesday.
MP K.C. Venugopal said, “Irreparable loss has taken place; we met some of the families and we can't explain the level of trauma they are undergoing.”
“We don't want to play political blame games. We want to support the people of Tamil Nadu, and our leadership — Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge — think like that,” Venugopal added.
Further calling the incident an “unimaginable, painful and heartbreaking incident,” he said he visited the injured on behalf of AICC to console the families.
“Rahul Gandhi has always been connected to the people of Tamil Nadu emotionally. When this tragedy happened, he was very shocked to hear about it. He immediately spoke to the Tamil Nadu CM and conveyed that we are strongly with the people of the state... Then he spoke to Vijay, the organizer of the rally, because this is a tragedy and nothing beyond that...” MP K.C. Venugopal said while speaking to media.
The court has remanded Paun Raju to judicial custody till October 14. Karur City Police took Paun Raj and Mathiyazhagan to court after their medical examinations earlier today.
TVK’s Karur West District Secretary, Mathiyazhagan, and a Karur town functionary who arranged flagpoles and flex banners for TVK chief Vijay’s campaign have been arrested in connection with the incident.
DMK MP A. Raja stated that a one-man commission has been appointed by the Chief Minister.
Raja said, “Let us wait for what is coming out from the Commission. Before that, people want to pre-empt the situation without any material or evidence. They want to say it is a conspiracy...This is completely nonsense...CM went there at midnight and came back.”
TVK’s lawyer, Advocate Manikandan, speaking to ANI, said, “An FIR has been filed against 3 people — Karur District Secretary and another two people. On behalf of TVK, we have contested that the permission was sought according to the law and the meeting was conducted according to the law. Everything happened by law. But the police failed to provide sufficient force to the assembly. We had applied for permission for 10,000 people...One meeting was cancelled on the advice of the police...They could have advised us that the crowd would increase and could not be controlled. The judge has observed that action will be taken according to the law. They have been given liberty to file a bail application and further steps will be as per law. A 14-day judicial custody has been granted by the judge...”
