Opposition MPs Express Dissatisfaction Over PM Modi’s Speech on Operation Sindoor

Opposition MPs reaction Over PM Modi’s Speech on Operation Sindoor Latest News: Opposition Members of Parliament, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech on the special discussion about Operation Sindoor in the Lok Sabha yesterday, expressed dissatisfaction, stating that the Prime Minister did not address why U.S. President Donald Trump continues to claim involvement in mediation between India and Pakistan during the recent conflict.

Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition (LoP) and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge raised concerns, saying, "Something is suspicious, and that’s why they are not saying anything," referring to Trump's repeated claims.

Speaking to ANI on Wednesday morning, Kharge said, "I mentioned yesterday that by the end of my speech, the count will increase to 30 (referring to Trump’s claim of mediating a ceasefire between India and Pakistan). The U.S. President has repeatedly said this, yet they don’t have the courage to say that he is lying. They don't have the courage to say that we don't tolerate such nonsense. Dal mein kuch kaala hai — that is why they are not saying anything..."

Congress MP Sukhdev Bhagat also questioned why Prime Minister Modi has not denied Trump's claims. He said, "We expected the PM to clarify that U.S. President Trump was not involved in the ceasefire. But yesterday, Trump repeated for the 30th time that he made the ceasefire happen. Why are PM Modi and his government not denying his statements?"

U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated on Monday that he used trade as leverage to get India and Pakistan to de-escalate the conflict, particularly following the Pahalgam terror attack in early May. Trump made the comments during a discussion with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer at Trump Turnberry golf course in Scotland, according to a report by The Hindu.

“If I weren’t around, you’d have, right now, six major wars going on. India would be fighting with Pakistan,” Trump was quoted as saying.

In response to the Prime Minister's speech on Operation Sindoor, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi raised questions about the ongoing nature of the operation. She asked, "The PM spoke for about two hours, and while he tried to address many opposition concerns, several questions remain unanswered. For instance, on Operation Sindoor, he clearly stated that it is ongoing. So, if it’s still ongoing, why has India given the 'green flag' for the Asia Cup and why are we facing Pakistan in these matches?"

Congress MP Manickam Tagore also questioned the Prime Minister's silence on Trump’s claims, stating, “Yesterday, for the 28th time, U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that he facilitated the ceasefire... Why is PM Modi afraid to take Trump's name in Parliament? Why is he not ready to clarify the situation? It is the duty of PM Modi to state in the Rajya Sabha that Donald Trump is lying."

On the PM’s statement that no world leader had intervened between India and Pakistan, Congress MP Kiran Kumar Chamala said, “Yesterday, the PM didn’t clarify whether Trump is telling the truth or lying. He could have simply stated that Trump is a liar. Trump also says that PM Modi is his best friend. So, either PM Modi or Trump is correct, and it is important for one of them to clarify.”

Sukhdev Bhagat reiterated, "We expected the PM to clarify that U.S. President Trump was not involved in the ceasefire... Why are PM Modi and his government not denying his statements?"

Congress MP Pramod Tiwari, speaking to ANI, criticized the PM for his handling of the situation, stating, “The PM will be remembered as a weak leader... Not once did he take Trump’s name and clarify that he was not involved in the ceasefire.”

Congress MP Imran Masood called Prime Minister Modi a "weak PM," saying, "The PM did not say that Donald Trump is lying. Look at Trump’s bravery; he reiterated today that he stopped the war. The PM did not address China once in his speech. The government seems more concerned about trade than our sovereignty and self-esteem. Trump is constantly making statements, but what is our PM doing? We shouldn’t be so scared because the U.S. needs India as much as India needs the U.S."

The discussion on Operation Sindoor continues today.
