Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and other senior Cabinet leaders paid homage to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, on his 78th death anniversary at Rajghat in Delhi on Friday morning.
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar was also present at the memorial.
Delhi Chief Minister, present at the Rajghat, also paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi.
The leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, and Congress MP, Rahul Gandhi, also paid his homage.
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was assassinated by Nathuram Godse after a prayer meeting in New Delhi on January 30, 1948. According to Britannica, Godse fired three shots at close range from a small-calibre revolver, hitting Gandhi in the upper thigh, abdomen, and chest.
Godse and his accomplice, Narayan Apte, were executed by hanging on November 15, 1949.
