PM Modi to Launch 100-Week 'Nashamukta Yuva' Campaign on August 2; Over 1 Crore Youth to Take Anti-Drug Pledge

Concerned over rising substance abuse among youth, Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced a 100-week nationwide campaign titled the Nashamukta Yuva Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyaan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officially launch the initiative on August 2, rallying young citizens toward building a drug-free India.
Mandaviya emphasized on Wednesday that the campaign is a sustained public movement rather than a single day event. Every Sunday across the 100-week duration, sports competitions, walkathons, meditation sessions, cultural programs, art contests, and street plays will be organized nationwide to raise continuous drug awareness.
Highlighting the alarming spread of addiction, the minister urged all young people to actively join this national mission. Over one crore youth across nearly 10,000 locations nationwide are expected to join the inaugural pledge, uniting under a shared vision to eliminate substance abuse from society.
The initiative will leverage the MY Bharat platform to engage volunteers, youth clubs, educational institutions, NGOs, and over 125 spiritual organizations. To sustain enthusiasm, top-performing volunteers and partner institutions will be formally honored and recognized during major milestone weeks, specifically the 50th, 75th, and 100th weeks.
Narcotics Control Bureau figures highlight the gravity of the challenge, recording 1.34 lakh kilograms of drug seizures valued at 1,980 crore rupees. Furthermore, authorities destroyed 42,282 acres of illegal opium crops in 2025, marking a sharp rise from 10,000 acres cleared in 2020.
