Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar's last rites: Full state honours accorded
The cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder have been recovered, the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) confirmed.
Funeral of Ajit Pawar: Full state honours were accorded to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Thursday morning. Ajit Pawar lost his life in a charter plane crash in Baramati on Wednesday, and his last rites will be performed shortly.
Ajit Pawar’s wife Sunetra Pawar and their sons, Parth and Jay Pawar, were present during the state honour ceremony.
Following the state honour, the mortal remains of Ajit Pawar were taken from his Katewadi residence in Baramati to the Vidya Pratishthan ground for the last rites. Supporters chanted “Ajit dada amar rahe” as the procession moved towards the ceremony ground. His son Jay Pawar, nephew Rohit Pawar, and other members of the Pawar family were present.
Meanwhile, NCP-SCP chief Sharad Pawar arrived at the Vidya Pratishthan ground ahead of the arrival of the mortal remains to attend the last rites of his nephew.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, MNS chief Raj Thackeray, and several other political leaders arrived at the ceremony ground to pay their last respects.
Large crowds were seen walking towards the Vidya Pratishthan ground to take part in the last rites, with many people lining the roads and showering flowers as the procession passed.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari arrived at Pune airport earlier today and proceeded to Baramati to attend the last rites of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.
Meanwhile, authorities have begun an investigation into the crash. Officials from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and forensic teams are examining the crash site. Ajit Pawar was on board a chartered aircraft that crash-landed in Baramati on Wednesday, killing all five people on board.
