Rape Convict Ram Rahim Granted 20-Day Parole, Leaves Jail Early Morning
It is expected that Ram Rahim will spend his parole period at the Dera Ashram in Sirsa, Haryana.
Gurmeet Ram Rahim, the self-styled godman and rape convict, has been granted a 20-day parole, sources confirmed. The Dera Sacha Sauda chief was reportedly escorted out of Sunaria jail in Haryana’s Rohtak district early in the morning at 5:26 am.
It is expected that Ram Rahim will spend his parole period at the Dera Ashram in Sirsa, Haryana. This marks the 12th time the controversial figure has been released from jail since his 2017 conviction.
Ram Rahim is serving a 20-year sentence for the rape of two of his disciples. Additionally, in 2019, he and three others were convicted for the murder of journalist Ram Chander Chhatarpati, a case dating back over 16 years.
However, in May 2024, the Punjab and Haryana High Court overturned his 2002 conviction for the murder of Ranjit Singh, a former manager of the sect. The court cited "tainted and sketchy" investigations as the basis for acquittal, overruling the CBI court's life imprisonment sentence.
Ram Rahim’s previous parole, granted in October 2024, included restrictions barring him from participating in political activities, delivering speeches, or remaining in Haryana during the parole period.
