Punjab CM Mann meets family of 16-year-old national-level basketball player Hardik Rathi; Urges for a govt. job

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann met the family of 16-year-old national-level basketball player Hardik Rathi, who died after a basketball pole fell on his chest during practice on 25th November in Rohtak, Haryana.

While speaking to the media, Mann raised several questions, saying, "Due to the use of poor quality construction material, a pole fell, and the boy died. Will such incidents encourage students to take part in sports? Should parents now worry if their children will even return safe from the play ground?... The students from here wrote a letter about the condition of the basketball ground in Lakhan Majra. MP Deepender Hooda has released money from MPLAD funds for it. So where is this money?"

He urged the government to provide a job to a family member who had suffered the loss.

" I have not come here to do politics; I am here as a sports lover. The family should receive compensation, and one family member should be given a government job...We will extend all help to the family."

Mann said this was the second such tragedy reported in the state.
