Parliament Winter Session 2023 Latest News

Parliament Winter Session 2023 Latest News: In anticipation of the Winter session of Parliament, the Central Government has called for an all-party meeting scheduled on December 2. The announcement was made by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi, emphasizing the need for constructive discussions before the parliamentary proceedings kick off.

The Winter session is set to commence on December 4 and will span until December 22, with 15 sittings spread over 19 days, as revealed by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi on November 9. Notably, this all-party meeting has been rescheduled a day earlier, likely influenced by the vote counting scheduled for December 3 in states currently undergoing elections.

Among the significant agenda items for the upcoming parliamentary session is the presentation of the Ethics Committee's report on the "cash-for-query" allegations involving TMC MP Mahua Moitra. The Lok Sabha will be required to adopt the report, determining the fate of the expulsion recommended by the panel.

During the session, the spotlight will also be on three crucial bills aimed at replacing the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), and the Evidence Act. These legislative discussions are expected to draw considerable attention and deliberation. Additionally, Parliament will deliberate on a key bill related to the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commissioners. Initially introduced during the Monsoon session, the government had deferred its passage in the special session due to opposition protests and concerns raised by former Chief Election Commissioners. The proposed bill seeks to align the status of the Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commissioners with that of the cabinet secretary.
