Assam Flood Death Toll Rises to 68, Over 5 Lakh Affected

The flood situation in Assam has shown signs of improvement, but the humanitarian crisis continues as the death toll from this year's floods has risen to 68. According to officials, two more deaths were reported on Sunday, while over 5.24 lakh people remain affected across five districts.
The latest fatalities were reported from Charaideo district, which remains the worst-affected region with nearly 1.9 lakh people still living under floodwaters. Other affected districts include Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon, and Sivasagar. Although floodwaters have started receding in several areas, thousands of families continue to face hardship due to damaged homes, disrupted transport, and loss of livelihoods. State authorities, along with disaster response teams, continue to carry out relief and rehabilitation operations in the affected districts. Rescue teams are providing food, shelter, and medical assistance to displaced residents as the administration closely monitors the evolving situation.
While the gradual improvement in the flood situation offers some relief, the rising death toll highlights the devastating impact of this year's monsoon. Authorities have urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain cautious, as rehabilitation and recovery efforts continue across the flood-hit regions.
