Joint Opposition Issues Statement After Meet

New Delhi: 27th Feb: In a statement issued by the joint opposition, after a meeting of 21 opposition parties held in New Delhi, the opposition has condemned the Pulwama Attack of February 14 2019. They expressed solidarity with the Armed Forces and paid homage to the martyrs. They applauded the armed forces for the Air Strike which was undertaken on February 26, destroying the biggest training camp of terror organization Jaish-e-Mohammed in the Pakistani territory.

The opposition parties have expressed deep anguish over blatant politicisation of the sacrifices made by men of armed forces by the ruling party. They have stated that national security is above all political gains. They said, that PM Modi has regrettably not convened an all-party meeting as per the established practice. It has also rued the fact that the Government has kept the opposition not up-to-date about the events taking place.

It has taken a serious note of the inability of Modi government to keep the opposition in loop. The statement also expressed deep concern over safety of missing pilot. The opposition has requested the government to work towards the safe return of the captured pilot. The united Opposition has asked the Prime Minister to take the nation into confidence regarding the current developments.

Talking to the media, CPI leader Sitaram Yechury said that the leaders of ruling party, which is BJP, are using the situation and its details for their political gain. He said that politicization of such a grave matter by the government, while the opposition has time and again offered its support and assured a responsible behaviour, is indeed condemnable.

It is to be noted that on Tuesday, the day air strikes took place pre-dawn, PM Modi while addressing a public rally in Rajasthan “Today, from the land of Churu, I want to assure the people of the country that the country is in safe hands”. Meanwhile, BJP president Amit Shah also used the air strikes to sway public opinion in his party’s favour saying “Who can ensure the security of the country? The people of the gathbandhan (SP-BSP-RLD alliance) or Modiji?”. This was reportedly a blatant effort to portray PM Modi as the hearo in this narrative. This behaviour is what the opposition condemned in its statement.
