Rajendran won the elections from Mudavanmugal ward by bagging 2,872 votes, 549 more than the rival Congress candidate. She is a second-year degree student of All Saint's College in the city.
The city's district secretariat of the Marxist party recommended her name for the post during a meeting. If approved, she will become the youngest Mayor ever in the country.
